Welcome to this week’s bulletin and round-up

Well… the forecast improvement in the weather never materialised; two ‘named’ storms and a bitingly cold wind was not what we were hoping for! Not to worry – it has been cosy and warm in school and we’ve had another lovely week. The children are responding brilliantly to the new rules and the new system of awarding House Points.

There is an update on House Points, inclding the top 15 children to date, here:

House Points Update

As ever, overall behaviour remains outstanding. We’ve had quite a bit of staff illness – some of it quite long-term – and the supply teachers we’ve been relying on have all been very, very impressed with the children – they’d all gladly come back, which we can assure you isn’t the case everywhere! In 5 Oak, poor Miss Blatherwick has been ‘proper poorly’ for a few weeks now and we are sure you will join us in wishing her all the best.

If you’ve been in school this week, you’ll have seen that the swimming pool has arrived. It was a bit delayed, due to the two big storms, but it’s filling up and should be heated and treated in time for Monday. The original post, outlining why we decided to try this is linked below. Top and bottom of it is that a thorough review suggested that the lessons at Carlton Forum were not as effective as we would hope for and did not represent good use of funds and time. We were continually faling to meet Department for Education targets for swimming outcomes. All the evidence suggests that children improve better with more intensive programmes of lessons and that the pool we have hired and the accompanying coaches are very effective. We’ll give it a go. If we never try something different, we’ll never know. It should also be fun!

Today (Friday 26th) is PE Coach/TA Miss Baker’s last day with us. We have said our goodbyes in a very emotional assembly. We are sure you will join us in wishing Paige all the best in her new career with the POlice as a PCSO.

Thank you! Our thanks go out for the rapid improvement in the number of lates, following this post earlier this week.

We have a new Sustainability Plan –  full details in due course. One target in it is to support the community more with recycling. We’ve now got a battery recycling collection point – nothign special, just a box –  in our main entrance and will be adding to this over the coming months.
