Many thanks for all the kind, positive comments about the trial of the visiting swimming pool. It has been great to hear how much the children have enjoyed this and even better to see the progress they have been making.

So many children have ‘converted’ from being a non-swimmer to a swimmer and scores of them have won a distance certificate. We’ve really never seen progress like it!

We have been able to put on personalised sessions for children for whom access to swimming presents a challenge – those with disability and/or special needs in particular, but also those children who found the leisure centre pool and experience a bit daunting. The pool has enabled us to proved a safe, accessible experience for all. The stronger swimmers  – and we have competitive club swimmers amongst us – have benefitted from smaller group sizes and closer attention to their technique. Thanks go out to staff for ‘going the extra mile’ in their planning and willingness to do whatever takes to help children acces the pool. It has been heart-warming. It’s also been exciting and fun!

This has certainly been ‘experimental’ – it would have been easier to just carry on doing what we’ve always done – but it has been a huge success. We look forward to the return of the pool in the Summer term.

Again, thanks for all the support and kind words. Thanks also to the two coaches from Elite Swimmnig, who have been so kind and brillaint with the children. Finally, special thanks to our PE Lead, Mrs Rippon, who has been the driving force and organisational power behind this initiative.
