Today, Friday 27th, was the girls’ turn to pay their Champions Cup 1/4 final. We faced daunting opposition in All Hallows, who had beaten us in the League (5-0) earlier this season, the only team to do so.

We tried a new formation to make us a bit more solid in defence against their very strong front pair. In front of Lottie in goal, we put Amy and Lola, with Danayah just in front of them. Then we put Evie-Grace and Layla/Amelia out wide with Sofia on her own up front; a kind of double diamond shape.

We took an early lead and dominated the first half, playing some breathtaking passing football at times. We were two up by half time and three shortly into the 2nd half. All Hallows’ came back strongly and we wobbled a bit to get it to 3-2, but we soon regained our composure, got the plan back on track and scored another three to finish up 6-2 victors.

Goal-scorers: Sofia (4), Danayah (2). Both scored absolute world-class contenders for ‘goal of the season’ at any level. However, this was a brilliant team performance, with everyone playing a huge part. Magic!

This was a fantastic turn-around and a tremendously gritty performance in a match some of the girls had been a bit anxious about. We’ll done to all of them. Thanks also to the travelling band of supporters, including a fair few of our boys who had come with their families – really lovely.

The draw for the semi finals has already been ,made and we face Richard Bonington at home on Friday June 24th.
