Welcome to Bulletin #36
Another busy week in school. Alongside the regular day-to-day, Year One have been doing their statutory Phonics Screening and Year Four their similarly statutory Multiplication Tables Check. We’ve had a monitoring visit from the authorities to make sure we’re administering the tests correctly and all was fine with that, as you’d expect. There has been a lot of joy and laughter, with today (Friday) being our fun day to mark Eid and we’ve also had lots of sporty activity – notably inter-house cricket.
Out on the field, we’ve been having the replacement trim-trail installed after the old one was condemned back in the Autumn. The children will be glad to have this back, bigger and better than before. It’s taken longer than hoped as the company originally doing it went bust, along with thousands of pounds of our money, back in February. The same company had been paid to replace the playground fencing and gates, hence the delay in getting that done too. The outdoor gym equipment has also had some repairs done and all elements of that are now accessible again.
We always try to be reflective and recently we’ve realised we’ve not been doing enough to share how we deal with concerns about bullying. We’ve assumed too much and that has left some people, especially more recent arrivals, a bit unclear about how we manage things. Our apologies for that, which we hope is rectified in the feature linked below.
Monday’s assembly introduced the children to the forthcoming Good To Be Me Day and classes are making their plans for this. The feature from last week’s bulletin is reposted below in case you missed it.
Finally, whilst not wanting to be prophets of doom, we’d once again like to draw your attention to the financial challenges faced by schools and, in particular, the peculiarly low levels of funding that your children attract by comparison to others. We’re trying to shout about it and would appreciate any back-up!

Year 6 Carlton Academy Tour Monday 16th June
Children who will be moving on to Carlton Academy in September will have the opportunity to take part in a special tour of the school ahead of their transition days. This tour will take place during the morning of Monday 16th June. Pupils should arrive at Parkdale as usual, wearing their full school uniform. We will walk to Carlton Academy together, aiming to arrive by 9:30am, and will return later that morning. The children will be accompanied by Parkdale staff throughout the visit. As well as having a tour of the school, they will also take part in a Q&A session with some ex-Parkdale pupils, who are now in Year 7. If you have any questions about this event, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs James or Mrs Blatherwick
