We have started the preliminary rounds of our inter-house cricket championship. Teams of 8 from each house, 2 boys, 2 girls, form each of Year 5 and Year 6, are playing a round-robin to find the finalists for the big event after school on Thursday the 10th of July. Spectators are warmly invited to come along to enjoy this; more details nearer the time.
So far; on Wednesday, Clumber were victorious against Rufford, whilst Newstead beat Wollaton. For those who prefer to think in colours, Green beat Blue, Red beat Yellow!
On Thursday; Clumber got a second win, this time against Newstead. Rufford won a low-scoring match against Wollaton
The teams have been chosen to be as balanced as possible, though we still have a vast range of cricket experience here; at one end, we have two County players, one male (Ollie, 6 Cedar, Clumber) and one female (Anum, 5 Maple, Newstead). At the other, we have lots of players who are just at the start of playing cricket and then we have all points in-between.
The matches are lovely, relaxed affairs and it’s great to see the star players being supportive and encouraging of their less experienced and confident team-mates. As every player has to bat and every player has to bowl, it’s a real team thing, great for encouraging and developing positive character and values.
