Welcome to Bulletin #2

Here we are at the end of the first week, with bulletin #2.

Thanks for a great start on two fronts; uniform and attendance. It is clear to see the effort families have made to get the right uniform and the children certainly look super-smart. Attendance-wise, we have got off to a really good start, considering this is often a time of year where we struggle with families not being back from travels. On both of these, your wonderful support is very much appreciated.

Thanks to Mrs Troop for organising the visiting theatre company for Years 2 to 6. There are plans afoot for more theatre for all year groups this year, probably from the same excellent travelling company. Today, Friday, Year 4 are off for an exciting adventure day learning about Vikings and Saxons at Perlethorpe. Again, thanks to the staff, in this case the Y4 team, for the considerable effort that goes into planning and running these events – the Risk Assessment paperwork alone is daunting enough! For those not off there, it should be a lovely day with our usual Friday afternoons ‘off-curriculum’ doing nice extra things to keep us fit, well and positive. Classes will, as every Friday, being playing games, doing challenges, being creative, crafting, dancing, exploring Forest School and much, much more… Aside from this, Friday afternoon is also used to check and review the week’s learning in a fun way (no, not tests!) and make sure everyone ‘got’ as much of it as they can. It’s an important day of the week and a fun one – the best, in fact, according to last year’s children’s survey!

Wishing everyone a good weekend when it arrives. It’s off to that London for me, Forest away to Arsenal. I’m expecting the worst, but you never know. However bad, it won’t be a 5-0 away defeat to Oldham Athletic in the 3rd Division, on an open terrace at Boundary park, famously the UK’s coldest, bleakest football ground, in a blizzard on New Year’s Day 2007, so I’ll enjoy myself whatever….
