Welcome to this week’s bulletin and round-up…

Firstly, apologies for the lack of a bulletin last week. There was a technical issue at the host end of our website that meant we were unable to update for a few days. Normal service is now resumed.

It has been a busy week in school with Sports Days featuring prominently. The weather has caused a few headaches and re-arrangements, but we’re getting there. We’ve had some lovely comments and feedback about the organisation of the Sports Days, for which we are very grateful.

We have had transition visits for parents and children entering Reception and Nursery and it is always lovely to see everyone at those – lots of new faces and many familiar ones too.

Our Year 6 children have had their SAT results and they have done very well. Collectively, we are well above national averages on all outcomes, with results that put us in the top 20% in the country. The percentage of our children reaching the higher, greater depth level is in the top 5%, three times the national average, which is very pleasing indeed. All the children, whatever their results, can reflect that they have done their best and that is all we ask. They should all feel very proud.

Since the departure of Mrs Burge, we have been working  on a staffing restructure that is now complete with all posts filled. Following a rigorous process, we can now announce officially that:

Mr Pattison is now the de-facto,  Deputy Head, having previously held a ‘composite’ role, shared with Mrs Burge.

Mrs Rippon has been appointed to a new post of Key Stage One Lead.

Mrs Carter has been appointed to a new post of Key Stage Two Lead.

Our congratulations to all three. In time, they will share more with you about their roles and areas of responsibility.

We have also welcomed back Teaching and Learning Lead Mrs Hinton from her Mat Leave, meaning we are back to fielding a ‘full strength’ senior leadership team!

The Summer Fair was a huge success, the best ever according to many. Thanks to everyone who attended and helped us to raise a lot of money that will benefit the children over the coming year. Thanks, of course, to the fantastic volunteers of Friends of Parkdale for their tireless work in organising the fair.

Today is reports day – parents/carers should receive the annual report for their child. Thanks to staff for the huge effort that goes into these. We’ve always tried to resist the move towards reports that are just tick boxes or numbers or generic text pulled from a bank of comments and to keep a personalised section. This takes masses of time and effort, all from staff in their own time, not the working day, but we hope it’s worth it.
