A huge well done and thank you to our amazing year Six children, who have now competed their SATs – we just have a couple of papers for one child who was poorly to catch-up on!

The focus, effort, determination and resilience shown by the children has been amazing. We’re not sure we’ve ever known a year group collectively put quite as much in as this cohort have. They approached the tests sensibly, relaxed and with a sense of perspective. They have all put 100% in on each and every test.

The tests are hard! No two ways about it. They are more challenging now than they have ever been and a completely different beast to even a few years ago. Some of the Maths they have been asked to do today (Thursday) is probably not very different to that covered in years 8 and 9 in secondary. Lots of adults would struggle with it. When we’re allowed, we’ll show you some of the more interesting questions for you to challenge yourselves!  Similarly the Grammar test, which is astonishingly technical and the Reading, which is always demanding very, very complex comprehension skills.

Nationally, post Covid, the ‘pass rate’ has been hovering around 50%, though ours have held up around 70-75%. We’d expect similar this year. Whatever we end up with though, the children have done their best and they know that is all that we ask of them. The children are more than their test results and the really important thing is that they leave us as nice, kind young people with good values and a good work ethic. No one measures that!
