Whilst 90% or more of children have made it into school today (well done and thank you!), we have had a small amount of absence with snow being given as the reason. With very few notable exceptions, we believe that everyone should have been able to get to school today, even if a little bit late.
We have, after much consideration, authorised absences this morning, but have not done so for absences this afternoon. Almost everyone could have got here for the afternoon session, one way or another.
Today has been a school day, like any other. Alongside the snowy fun, children have been doing important learning and – it being assessment week – continuing their very important termly assessments of progress. These will need to be ‘caught up’ by children who have missed today.
Going forward, we will work on the assumption that if school is open and the great majority are able to get here, then citing the weather conditions will generally not be acceptable for authorising absence. Again, we are aware of circumstances that will lead to a small number of exceptions to this.
