Table Tennis is one of our ‘core’ sports. Over the years, we have made a big investment in equipment and time. This was initially largely inspired by the fact that Carlton le Willows is an important hub for Table Tennis England. Latterly, we’ve really come to value table tennis as a great social sport that works well for those children one might describe as ‘sporty’, but also for those who are generally less keen on traditional sports like football and rugby. We can play it indoors and out, supervised or unsupervised, competitively and just for fun.
Over the past few months, we have been running a table tennis league, which was open to Year 5 and 6. We found our League Champion (Sean, 6 Beech) and have also been running two knock-out cup competitions, The Champions Cup and Plate. By the end of today (Thursday) we will know the finalists in both.
Table Tennis Club finishes today, but we are now going to host a special event for the cup finals next Thursday, the 6th of February. This will run from 3:30 to 5pm and will feature the two finals. Around those and the presentation of the trophies, we will offer the chance for ‘free play’ for parents/carers and children. We will have 8 tables available to play on in the Hall. If the weather permits, we can expand outwards to use the further 7 outdoor tables. We will put on tea, coffee, soft drinks and some nibbles.
The event is open, in the first instance, to children in Years 5 and 6 and their adults. It is not limited to current members of table tennis club, though these are welcome to sign up. If spaces remain, we will extend this to Year 4.
We’d like this to be a lovely family occasion. Children could play with/against their own parents/carers and family pairs could play against one another. It’s purely social and ability is no barrier! We are limiting the number families to 16. Each child is to have an adult to accompany them (maximum 2). Naturally, we will need to reserve four places for the two sets of finalists regardless of whether family members can make it.
Sign-up is on the form below. We will confirm places by text
