Quite a few people have been kindly asking how my latest adventure in Argentina went. I got nine matches into my trip, all in different stadiums, and I did a fair bit of travelling around and exploring – much of it quite off the beaten track and into the realms of “hmmm… it might’ve been more sensible not to go there!”
My travels got me noticed in the media there – I did a radio interview and then there was this piece (link below) in the local and then national press. Google translate will do the job if you’re interested but not a Spanish speaker.
I ‘met’ the recently and sadly departed Pope, who was famously a supporter of San Lorenzo, one of Argentina’s ‘big five’. I was invited into the dressing rooms for a pre match tactical talk at one place and took (scored) a penalty in front of the crowd at another. All very bizarre! I’d taken a stash of Forest memorabilia and there are now lots of people over there who have adopted Forest as their second club. The little lad (with Forest shirt) and his dad in the middle photo were complete strangers who helped me illicitly get into a stadium when my ticket failed to work, a nice reminder of the kindness of 99.9% of people everywhere.
Again, thanks to all who took the time to ask how it had all gone.
