Our new ‘Parkdale Shop’ was introduced to the children in Assembly this week. They greeted this news very positively indeed!
We are making good progress with this and are ready to launch for real in January. Our huge thanks go out to Mrs Cooper’s husband Mark, who has kindly printed and guillotined us 15,000 ‘Parkdale Pennies’ to use for this. Thanks Mark, we all appreciate the thought, time and effort that has gone into this!
We have decided on some items to be on sale for the grand opening, focussing on treats and experiences, rather than physical ‘stuff’. We’re keen to avoid small plastic items that will just end up in landfill as far as we can. We’re also trying to keep the cost down! By way of example, the following will all be on offer from day one:
Your own non-uniform day – day of your choosing
An extra 30 minutes football, coached by Mr H
A posh school dinner with table service for you and your friends
A ticket to an extra disco to be put on in the Spring term
A ticket to a ‘cinema’ afternoon with popcorn to be put on in the Spring term.
Some packs of football cards we just happen to have around!
More will be added as ideas arise and children suggest them, as they are doing!. There will be special offers, sales and ‘hot-ticket’ limited availability items too.
We’d anticipate that every child will be able to enjoy something from the (changeable) list at some point in the Spring term. Those with plenty of House points converted can probably afford something from the first day and may choose to spend or save up. We reckon the non-uniform day is affordable to at least half of the school immediately. A child earning the expected penny per week would be able to afford at least one of the bigger treats by Easter.
