As previously reported, we are working on making dinnertimes a more active, creative and fun experience for the children.

We have started Phase One of our action plan by opening the field, trim-trail and outdoor gym up and the children are already reporting that they like this arrangement much, much better. We have started to see some very lovely, creative things going on and a lot more running around. It’s been cold but we’ve been resilient though!

Next week, we will introduce four zoned areas for the children to play in, each with its own theme and resources. We are still very keen to acquire more items to support us with this project, notably:

any old brooms from which we could use the heads as boot cleaners

any old tarpaulins or ground sheets, even unwanted tents!

old clothes for our dressing up rail – coats, scarves, hats, accessories… think charity shop chic!

a person with a mini digger who might be able to scrape out an area in which to create a beach

sturdy crates and boxes – for building and for storage

nail-free lengths of timber for construction

lengths of tubing or guttering for water play

buckets

pallets – we’ve had some thanks, but more would be great.

unwanted (manual) gardening tools – spades, rakes, hoes, brushes…

Thanks to all who have supported so far, either financially, with items and resources or by donations via the Jingle Jog and Christmas collections. The near £300 raised there has now been spent on construction materials, clothing and play equipment.

Thanks also for responding so positively for the plea to send children in with suitable spare clothing. As usual, you – our community – have been brilliant.

A final thought – we would be perfectlyhappy to see the children wearing slippers in class. Some have already started to do this and we would very much encourage this. Please feel free, as long as they’re not a distraction or a safety issue, the cuter and fluffier the better!.
