We have been asked to consider providing a space for parents/carers and children to do their homework; making use of our space, WiFi and the children’s ipads. This is a great suggestion and one we’d be happy to support if there is genuine demand. We appreciate that for some, for a diversity of reasons, it might be much more convenient to do homework here rather than at home.
So… we are proposing to offer a workspace (most likely a classroom), after school on Thursdays, available until 4:30pm. A member of staff will be present to welcome, for purposes of security and to generally assist, but the expectation would be for the parent/carer to be present and responsible for their own child – otherwise, this ceases to be ‘homework’ and just becomes an extra lesson!
We’re at the early stages of thinking about this, but if we we to proceed, we’d aim to start immediately after half-term. How we manage attendance and regularity depends somewhat on levels of interest. Our initial thoughts are just to have a list of interested families and see who drops in each week, quite informal.
