Parkdale Football Club – promoting Hope
Another Thursday, another fixture for our football team. Again we picked a big squad to give everyone a run-out in a proper local derby against Sacred Heart. Google maps reckons it’s 800m between the schools. Not quite as near the two closest in the UK – Dundee United and Dundee (113m) or Forest and County (270m) – but pretty close all the same!
Sacred Heart seem to be going through a golden age at the moment and put 21 goals past us in the league last season. They’re repeatedly able to put out sides with numerous professional club academy and top-league club players and yesterday was no exception. We came up against a very good side who soon raced to an early lead and forced Spencer into some fantastic saves in our goal.
As the game went on, we battled our way back into it and got to grips with their crisp passing. By half-time, we were almost matching them and had chances to score ourselves. We made some changes for the 2nd half, giving everyone a run-out. This disrupted us a bit but everyone did themselves proud. The boys showed determination, hard graft and a lot of resilience. They played with great attitude and sportsmanship.
The visitors ran out 7-2 winners, but they’ll have much easier games this season and doubtless win by much bigger margins. Our boys can feel very proud of themselves.
We’re in action at home again next Thursday, this time against Lambley.
