It has been another busy week for our football team. Possibly too busy, as a certain Headteacher completely bodged up our first fixture on Tuesday when Sacred Heart (correctly) sent their girls’ team up, but we were here with our mixed ‘a’ team!

Fortunately (and very kindly), everyone saw the funny side and we played a friendly training match, whcih was very enjoyable. Credit to Sacred Heart’s girls for a really positive attitude and to our players for being so accommodating. We ended up playing about four against eleven, with Amy and Danayah transferred onto their side to help! I have no idea what the score was, but it was a lot to nil. Thanks also to both sets of parents and supporters who were very understanding!

Things went a bit more smoothly on Thursday, when the right two teams played each other here in another GPSFA League match. This one was against Colwick St John’s. We stormed to a 3-0 half-time lead, with some terrific passing football and a hat-trick from Alex. 3-0 at that point was harsh on our visitors and it was always a much more balanced half than the score suggested. Sure enough, Colwick staged a great fight-back in the second half, for the match to finish in a thriling 3-3 draw, a credit to both sides. Thanks here to Jack’s Dad Liam and Max’s Dad Stephen who did coaching and sub management duties for I could focus on reffing.

Next week:

The mixed ‘a’ team are at home to Sacred Heart (!) on Tuesday: Squad = all who played this week: Theo, Aidan, Danayah, Alfie, Jack, Max, Alex, Charlie, Lavell, Edward, Ruben, Oliver.

The girls team have a big top of the league match away to Stanhope on Friday (18th): Squad: Danayah, Amy, Evie-Grace, Sofia, Layla, Lola, Lottie, Amelia, Georgia,

For all those named above, we’ll assume availability unkless told otherwise. Offers of help with transport for the girls on Friday much appreciated. Liam and Stephen, might you be able to do the manager’s role again for me, pretty please?
