We’ve been busy and active out on the footy pitch, with matches coming thick and fast.
Our girls – mostly very new to football – played their first League match at Mapperley Plains last Thursday. This was literally a first ever proper match for lots of our team and it took a bit of getting used to. We went down 11-0 to a much more experienced and physically bigger team. Everyone present reported though how fantastic and resilient our girls were; and we got better the longer the match went on too!
Next up, the boys played their long-awaited County Cup semi-final yesterday (Monday the 10th). We’d done fantastically well to get this far in Nottinghamshire’s premier schools competition and, as happens in cup football, eventually came up against remarkably strong opponents from Lady Bay. We were up against a team packed with top quality players, who were well organised as a result of all playing club football together and who were physically fit and strong. We battled away and had some good moments, but still crashed to a 10-0 defeat. Again, our lads’ resilience was impressive and they can still feel proud of their excellent cup run.
For the boys now, it’s onto the League and we have a match at Westdale Juniors on Thursday – can we be bounce back like Forest did in winning against Brighton (7-0) the very next game after losing to Bournemouth (5-0)? We’ll see…
