We have been looking at formalising our enrichment offer; those experiences and activities that we provide beyond the curriculum.

We have been working closely with the Trust CEO and others at Trust HQ on establishing a core enrichment offer – a minimum expectation around which schools can build their offers. This has been done in consultation with children, largely through Transform Children’s Parliament, whose survey gathered the views of over 2,500 children across the Trust.

Here at Parkdale, we have taken this and added to it.We have based much of this on the National Trust’s 50 Things To Do Before You’re 11 3/4, a well-established framework of traditional childhood experiences. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/50-things

Whilst we’re on the topic, we’ve also come across a great app for families (and our Early Years Team!) that suggests 50 Things To Do Before You’re Five: https://www.50thingstodo.org/five¬†

This gives us an outline of what you can broadly expect your child to enjoy at Parkdale, beyond the curriculum. It is a commitment to not become one of those schools (they exist!) that focusses solely on core subjects or (worse still) just the subjects that are in the national tests.

The offer we have created is outlined in this document, which will be regularly reviewed and hopefully added to. Remember, the list doesn’t include trips and visits related to the curriculum and neither does it include our extensive offer of activity clubs. Those are a given! The listed activities will form the basis of what we offer from 8:25 each morning and on Active Fridays, our new Friday afternoon initiative.
