We have marked the 80th anniversary of D-Day with a short assembly, explaining in child-friendly ways, the background and events of this hugely important historical event. We have reflected on the sacrifices made for our freedom and the lessons and inspiration we can take from that. A number of children wanted to ask questions and/or share their family history – we heard of great-grandads who drove tanks or were in the Royal Navy – and we have encouraged more discussion and finding-out about this in class today.
