A fantastic victory for our ‘a’ team on Friday, away to a very strong Coddington C of E, over the far side of Newark. The hosts are reigning county champions, midland champions and went to the national finals last year, so we were expecting a challenging match.

Coddington started strongly and put us under a lot of pressure, but we remained organised and resilient. Gradually, we grew into the match and began to look the more likely team to score. Yousaf put us two up with one from close range – a real goal poacher’s goal –  and another, this time a great strike from the edge of the box.

Again, the hosts started the 2nd half as strongly as you’d expect from a very good team – Jesse was called upon to make two great saves to keep us ahead and they hit the woodwork too. We switched Tion from midfield to up-front and this soon paid off as his strength and skill brought two quick goals.

It ended with us winning 4-0 and we face Radcliffe-on-Trent Juniors in the next round, due to be played before half-term. It’s doubtful we’ll have both Morgan Gibbs-White and Murillo in the squad for that one (see photo), but we’ll give it our best shot!

Well done to all the boys and huge thanks to the merry band of supporters who made the long trek with us.
