Today (Monday 13th Jan), children from Reception to Year 6 all enjoyed a great assembly, led by Matilda Crane of Climate Ambassadors, encouraging them to connect with nature. Matilda is the regional link for Climate Ambassadors and has started to work with us on various projects around sustainability, including an audit of our curriculum and the development of our Climate Action Plan, something all schools must have in place from this year onwards.
The children enjoyed some quizzes and challenges and were reminded of the ways in which they can connect with the natural world and how this benefits them in so many ways. This, of course, is one of the reason we were so keen to develop Parkdale Pines; many of us lead increasingly indoor lifestyles and engage with nature less and less and we want to help reverse this trend. We need to understand and appreciate nature and it’s also good for our wellbeing.
One thing we’re all going to try to do this week is to learn to recognise the songs of some common birds.
Matilda is also leading workshops with Year 5 throughout the day and will be back to do more with other year groups in due course.
