We were delighted to welcome MIchael Payne MP, the Member of Parliament for Gedling, to Parkdale for what transpired to be a very in-depth look around. Michael is acutely aware of the financial challenges that face all schools and us in particular. We have been managing our way through a real funding and resource crisis over the past few years and this shows no sign of abating. In what are difficult times for all schools, we remain one of the very lowest funded. He has seen first hand the impact this has on our over-stretched staff and the emotional and physical toll this can take on them. He also recognises the impact this has on provision for children and our capacity to offer extra support. He acknowledges the crisis in special needs provision and the impact this has on children, families and schools.
Michael was impressed with the behaviour and politeness of the children he encountered (randomly) on his tour, especially in 5 Oak where the class gave him something of a grilling! He was also full of admiration for the resilience of staff, who continue to show such an amazing level of dedication and love for the children and turn up for work in very difficult circumstances.
(Michael is pictured here, right, with Mr Dean Wilson, our Chair of Governors centre)
Michael has undertaken to raise a case with the Minister for Education about general funding and special needs funding in all schools. he will also raise a specific case about our particularly difficult financial situation . He can’t, of course, wave a magic wand, but he promises to raise awareness of the challenges we face and to fight our corner on behalf of his constituents.
