We have been contacted by the Scientific Officer for Gedling Borough to inform us that the council are receiving increasing numbers of complaints about vehicle engines left idling outside schools. The communication warns that monitoring and enforcement of this is likely to be increased as a result. Offences can lead to a Fixed Penalty Notice.
A reminder that it is illegal to let your engine idle when parked. Rule 123 of The Highway Code looks at ‘The Driver and the Environment’. It states that drivers must not leave a parked vehicle unattended with the engine running or leave a vehicle engine running unnecessarily while the vehicle is stationary on a public road.
Statistics show that the air quality around most UK schools is below the minimum standard that that children’s health is put at risk by this. Idling is a major contributory factor. We haven’t particulary noticed this being a big problem here, so your ongoing support with keeping the air around Parkdale as clean and healthy as possible for the children is appreciated.
