Our girls started their football season with a home fixture against Burton Joyce today (Tues 12th Oct). With there being virtually no schools’ football during the pandemic, this was our first match in almost two years and the girls put on quite a show against decent opposition, who had won their own opening match of the season.
In showery conditions, Burton Joyce took an early lead and it took us a while to fully get going. We had lots of possession and lots of shots, but a combination of good goalkeeping and rusty finishing denied us for a while. Eventually, we got into our stride and began to dominate the match. Half time came (a bit early as the heavens opened!) with us 2-1 up. The second half saw us well on top and only more good goalkeeping kept us down to five goals. Some of our passing football was just brilliant. A late goal for the visitors brought it back to 5-2, but this was a very convincing, stylish victory for us.
Everyone played their part, including a fair few who had never played a competitive match before. We should be on for a successful season. We’re physically strong and technically very gifted. Put it this way…it’ll take a good team to beat us!
Squad: Lottie, Georgia, Kaitlyn, Amelia, Evie-Grace, Danayah, Amy, Layla, Anaya, Sofia. Scorers: Evie-Grace (1), Danayah (2) and Sofia (2)
