Our girls team played a first round County Cup fixture at home to West Bridgford Juniors today, Tuesday 26th. This always promised to be a challenging match, as Bridgford schools, girls particularly, tend to be incredibly strong due to the great influence and sheer size of West Bridgford Colts. As suspected, the large majority of WBJ’s girls play together on the same Colts team and it showed!
Despite heroics in our goal from Pearl, the visitors ran out comfortable 8-0 winners, scoring 4 in each half. Our team kept going and learned a lot as the match went on. This gives us something to build on, especially the idea of marking the opposition when they are in possession. We had a few promising attacking moments too and can work on that.
Everyone remained cheerful and philosophical – a great example of resilience. Lollies from Khloe’s mum at the end helped too! Coach Matt’s number 1 rule is “Have fun.” Despite the result, we all managed that.
