Our ‘a’ team played thier 1/4 final of the Gedling PSFA Champions Cup away at Burton Joyce on Wednesday (25th). This was always going to be a tough match, with the hosts having qualified unbeaten and having routinely won matches well into double-figures.

Things looks ominous as we went two-nil down in a matter of two minutes, before getting back into the match with a strong response. For the remainder of the first half, we had a lot of possession and a fair few chances, but  Burton Joyce’s big, strong, dominant player punished us with two more well taken goals. 4-1 at half time looked a bit harsh.

The second half started evenly, but the hosts went 5-1 up about half way through. Undeterred, we fought back to score another to make it 5-2. We changed our shape to push for more goals, but that resulted in us being caught on the break repeatedly and the match finished 8-2, with the one big lad having scored 6 of the 8. Him aside, there was little in it to be fair.

Our team showed plenty of skill, determination and resilience and have done well to get to this stage. No need to feel down at all, though that’s our cup run over. We’ve still got the Transform FInals Day to look forwasd to after half-term on the 17th June at our place. We go into that as winners of the South Partnership qualifying tournament.
