On Thursday (6th), we started our preparations for the competitive season with friendlies at home to our nearest neighbours from Sacred Heart.

We played two simultaneous matches; girls’ only and and ‘a’ team. In both we chose a big squad to give lots of players a run-out – 30 in all!

Both matches were played over two 25 minute halves and we made lots of changes at half time.

The girls match finished 2-0 to a very strong looking Sacred Heart side, but we kept it competitive all the way through. We put out an experienced team in the first half, which was very finely balanced, with our visitors taking the lead with a smartly finished goal just before half-time. Our team in the 2nd half was very inexperienced and did well under a lot of pressure to limit Sacred Heart to just one more goal.

Similarly, the ‘a’ team match was a close affair in the first half, but our visitors overpowered a much less experienced line-up in the 2nd half to run away to a 7-2 victory.

Well done to all involved, who showed plenty of skill, determination and team spirit.
