Two more Gedling PSFA League matches to report; ‘a’ team and girls, both at home to our friends and neighbours from Netherfield.
Off the back of their win on Tuesday, the ‘a’ team stormed to a convincing 11-0 win against spirited opposition who never gave up.It was difficult to keep track of the goalscorers, but Jacob certainly scored at least a hat-trick! 8-0 at half time, the goals became harder to find as the ‘power-play’ rule took effect, with Netherfield able to have two extra players on the pitch. Sometinmes in matches like this, the winning team loses its shape and it becomes a low quality kick-about, but we kept playing the good passing football which we want to be a habit.
Meanwhile, the girls were performing similarly strongly, racing to an early lead and continuing to score freely against opposition with two extra players. Matt also imposed some limits on our players to balance things up, for example telling certain ones they couldn’t go into the opposition half! Regardless, this one finished 9-0 and Matt did manage to keep track of who scored: Maisie 3, Isla 2, Ava 3, Willow 1. A nice win for the girls after a couple of heavy defeats.
At the end of each match, we focused on being good winners, with empathy and kindness for the opposition who had kept going and deserved respect. After all, we’ve been there ourselves at times!
