Our ‘a’ team opened their season with what always promised to be a tough match against Edwalton Primary – only the top football schools in the county enter this most prestigious competition and we know that schools from West Bridgford tend to be very strong; Edwalton were no exception, fielding a couple of Forest academy players and a lot of good club players alongside them.
The first five-ten minutes were very open and both sides had chances to score. Edwalton took the lead on twelve minutes, but we came back strongly with an equaliser. In between, Jack in our goal made a fantastic double-save. Edwalton fired home another just before the break. 2-1 down then at half-time.
The second half continued to be very open, with us just possibly shading the better of it in terms of possession and chances. We got our reward with an equaliser with about ten minutesleft and play continued to flow end-to-end in very entertaining style. Good value for the decent sized crowd!
Possibly a little against the run of play, Edwalton fired in a cross from the right, a player picked it up unmarked on the back post and swept it in to give the visitors a 3-2 lead with only two or three minutes left. Try as we might, we just couldn”t create another good chance and the final score finished 3-2 to to our guests.
So, now we can focus on the League, as they say. This was an encouraging performance, first time out this season for us. There is plenty to build on and all the squad can be proud of their efforts.
