We have been fielding a few enquiries about coughs and colds and whether or not children should be in school with them. There are a lot of coughs and colds around! NHS and Government guidance is that children should attend school with a cough or a cold, unless they have a fever/temperature with it. We’d always encourage attendance – children typically get on average 8 colds a year as they have not encountered most of the hundreds of different cold viruses that are always around and hence have no resistance to them. Learning to be resilient and manage as best you can  is part of growing up. Obviously, we recognise that some coughs and colds may, for a short while, be too unpleasant and leave the child too poorly to be in school with.
