Welcome to the latest bulletin

Firstly, news of next week’s industrial action by members of the NEU. The BBC news yesterday talked of discussions with the Government over the weekend, but the action is still expected to take place. Details of classes that will be affected if the strike goes ahead here: https://parkdale-primary.co.uk/neu-strike-action-weds-1st-march/

A warm welcome back to Mrs Stafford. Vicky is back from her maternity leave and takes over as the full time teacher for 4 Ash. She knows many of the children there well, having previously taught them in Year One. Our thanks go out to Mr Pattison, who has been helping ‘hold the fort’ in 4 Ash this year, teaching the class part-time throughout the period of the enforced recruitment freeze whilst still doing all of his Deputy duties – a heroic effort that saved us resorting to unknown, untested and costly supply.

Mrs Carter has been getting creative and has started her project to brighten up our hall: https://parkdale-primary.co.uk/a-new-addition-to-our-hall/

Congratulations to our PE Specialist TA Miss Baker, who has been selected for the Notts, Lincs and Derbyshire rugby squad: https://parkdale-primary.co.uk/congratulations-miss-baker/

Keeping it sporty, a huge “well done” to our indoor athletics team who have qualifed for the area finals for the first time in many years.

Competitive football returns for our ‘a’ team with a Notts Schools FA County Cup fixture at home to West Bridgford Juniors next Tuesday (28th), kick off time 3:45pm. All supporters welcome.

Next Thursday is World Book Day. We have lots of activities planned in school, but decided, following some feedback from families, to have a rest from dressing up. There is no need to be arranging costumes!

News here of some changes to our PE curriculum for this term: https://parkdale-primary.co.uk/racquet-sport-focus/

Plans to completely overhaul our Library, delayed by the pandemic, are sparking into life. We now have the financial ‘go-ahead’ to get on with this and the project shouid move on quickly over the coming weeks. We are hoping to create a much more welcoming space, one that is accessible to families to use as a proper lending library.

Another important development, delayed over the past few difficult years, is to improve the outdoor play area for Key Stage One. A significant bit of work starts on this next week and you will notice builders on site from Monday onwards. Whilst we’d have preferred to get this done during the holidays, it was not possible. All has been fully risk assessed and will not impact the children or present any problems.

The Friends of Parkdale AGM is next Tuesday, the 28th: https://parkdale-primary.co.uk/friends-of-parkdale-agm/

Thanks to all for the great support for the earthquake appeal on Monday 20th. We’re still trying (struggling a bit, to be honest) to put together the intended flag mosaics from this and will share them if and when we get there: https://parkdale-primary.co.uk/turkey-syria-earthquake-appeal/

We are having ongoing problems with parking outside school. We are receiving numerous complaints form residents about parking over driveways. There are still people parkling illegally on the yellow lines at drop off and pick up times and there are frequently vehicles parked on the zig-zags. We would ask everyone to be more considerate, please. Finally, for now, we would also ask that the emergency gates on Cliff Road are left clear. This is the access point for the fire service, but we are finding cars illegally parked on the dropped kerb outside there. We have requested the Highways Department install yellow lines and zig-zags on Cluiff Road to address this problem and they have agreed to consider this.

As our Eco Club continue with their fantastic work in school we are looking to move to the next stage which includes involving parents.  If you are able to volunteer please contact office@parkdale.notts.sch.uk.  Our upcoming projects include a litter pick, lots of outside/gardening work and working on reduce waste and energy use in the school. Look out also for a video presentation from our Eco Club next week.

Finally, from the Office, a reminder to those who need to to order meals for March from Aspens. There seem to be quite a lot of children without meals ordered for the coming weeks.
