Welcome to this week’s bulletin…

Firstly, we should note and record our sadness and grief at the terrible events in our city this week. We resolutely echo the calls from the families of the victims for love and togetherness and that the awful tragedy should not be used, as it seems some are doing, to persue a divisive and/or racist agenda. As the hashtag says #NottinghamTogether.

Today is World Refill Day. Some info and advice on refilling here from the children and staff on our Eco Team: https://parkdale-primary.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Presentation-4.pdf

More from the Eco Team:

We have some volunteers coming to school next week to help set up some new planting areas for the classes.  If anyone has any spare vegetable plants please could we have them.

Thank you for all the donations of old school uniform.  We are still collecting it as hoping to have enough to have a preloved stall later this term.

It has been Community Action Week across all Transform Schools. More on what we’ve been up to for Hope Nottingham to follow. One lovely bit of news was that we found out our collecitons in Morrisons last week had brought in over £600 for the foodbank.. Another group of our children have been there this week, collecting for Rainbows Hospice too.

Apple Distinguished School: we have started the second phase of our application to become accredited as an Apple Distinguished School. It’s a very rigorous, challenging process and not many make it! This week, this involved putting together a very detailed video presentation of how we enhance teaching and learning and how digital technology supports our children in being golbal citizens with positive values. It all seemed to go very well. Fingers crossed…

Places in Reception: They are filling up, but we do still, most unusually, have a small number of spaces left in our Reception classes for September. Please feel free to let anyone who may be interested know! Other than that, we’re full with substantial and growing waiting lists in every year group.

Getting out and about: lots of trips and visits going on at the moment. Reception have been for an art day at Wollaton Park this week. At the time of writing, Year Two are at the tennis centre. Next week, Year One are off to Sherwood Forest. Reports and photos to follow on each year group’s web page in due course…

Dynamos Cricket: A huge well done to both our girls’ and boys’ cricket teams who acquitted themselves brilliantly at recent local Dynamos tournaments. Whilst neither qualified for next month’s county finals, both put in great performances and showed brilliant character and attitude that was noted by the organisers. Our boys’ team is particularly strong and really probably should have qualified. Frustratingly, sometimes in the Dynamos form of the game, being good at bowling is a disadvantage whilst not being very good can help! Not to worry…they have hard-ball matches coming up against some very strong schools and we are sure they will do us proud.
