Welcome to the bulletin, a round-up of the latest news, information and views from school…

Firstly, a reminder that we are not on half-term next week! Our holiday pattern remains in line with Carlton le Willows, our main feeder school and the secondary for our designated family of schools. Collectively, staff and Governors at Parkdale continue to favour the pattern we are already on. Informal parental/carer feedback tells us that the extra week in Summer remains more valued than an extra week in October, the main point made being that you can do so much more outdoors in the Summer and that the predicted benefits of cheaper foreign holidays in October has never come to fruition (the holiday companies soon caught on!). Some have also mentioned the issue of heating the house during the day for an extra week, understandable in the current financial climate! For us in education, including colleagues we speak to in schools on the ‘other’ pattern, there seem to be great benefits to sticking to what we are doing, especially for younger children who are just settling into school/a new class. To be taken out for a fortnight tends to create a setback in settling and progress. Nonetheless, we will continue to monitor what C le W does going forward and will consult with our community if there are any proposed changes.

Harvest Festival was a great success. We would like to thank you for your generous donations, which resulted in a massive contribution to the food bank on Carlton Hill, which was gratefully received by Rev’d Richard. We intend to establish the school as a collection point with a permanent place for ongoing donations.More on this as it develops.

Parking – the perennial problem continues. We urge parents/carers not to park on the yellow lines or zig-zags outside school. We have had too many ‘near misses’ caused by illegal parking which limits sight lines around the crossing and gates. We have asked the enforcement team to send the camera car more often and they have undertaken to do this.

Today (Friday the 14th) is the Y5/6 Disco, promoted by Friends of Parkdale
