A tough match for our ‘a’ team in the Gedling PSFA League this week. We travelled down to Carlton le Willows to play at their football centre against Burton Joyce. First thing to note – what amazing facilities C le W have. The artificial pitch and floodlights are of the highest quality. Brilliant!
Also brilliant, as we expected, were Burton Joyce. We suspected they had a good smattering of professional academy players and indeed they did! Remember that we’ve got a good team ourselves and have inflicted big defeats on other schools. Remember the power play – go three down and bring on an extra player, four down and you bring on a ninth. The score here then? 17-3 to Burton Joyce. We think. Everyone lost count!
They were remarkable. Probably the best under 11s team I’ve seen in over 30 years of schools football. You just had to admire, enjoy and applaud it – as our boys did, to their credit. We even began to see the funny side, which is quite something for our lads to be proud of; resilient, respectful and always keeping a sense of proportion. We all survived – the result and the cold – and went home to defrost and for our teas!
Well done to all the boys and the cheery, hardy bunch of travelling supporters.
